Elicia Alston

My name is Elicia Alston, I am 19 years old, and I’m a senior at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University. I was also a Dual Enrolled student at Indian River State college; I graduated with my A.A. on May 5th,2017. I have two younger siblings, who have helped grow my love for teaching. As a child, I played the role of a teacher with my stuff animals, dolls and my brother as one of my students; I enjoyed spreading knowledge to others. Over the years, I noticed that my passion to teach only grew stronger. I began to volunteer at some elementary schools during my junior and senior year of high school; and I enjoy the atmosphere so much I couldn’t give it up. It did not come without its stressful moments. I am a business manager of my scholarship house, which includes 17 girls, and I am the secretary of my FAMU SFEA.  I have attended the 2018 & 2019 Student FEA Leadership & 2018 Professional Learning Conference, Delegate Assembly Attendees Meeting, 2018-2019 Minority Leadership and Women’s Leadership Training Seminar. These have been great experiences for me to grow and learn from.

Kourtney Brooker

Greetings!
I am Kourtney Brooker, a senior Elementary Education Scholar from Sanford, FL. I currently serve as the historian for our SFEA chapter. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE education! It’s the BACKBONE of everything! Becoming an educator will allow me to express exactly how important education is. Being a member of SFEA, I am able to gain more knowledge and skills to help educate my peers, teachers, and students. I am very appreciative of all opportunities and thanks to SFEA I’ve traveled to conferences, met officials, and gained life-long friends. In the words of John Dewey, “Education is not preparation for life, education is life itself.”

Carissa Jackson

Greetings, I am Carissa Jackson a second year pre-elementary education student from Pompano Beach Fl. I’ve always looked up to my 3rd grade elementary school teacher, she was one of the loving people that showed tough love! Her focus wasn’t only trying to prepare us for testing but to prepare us for life, it’s things that she has taught me that I still use in my everyday life today! I’m saying this to say when I become a teacher my main goal is to impact my students in such a way that they will never forget, as a teacher you’re dealing with students that may or may not have a family but even if they do you are their family away from their actual family considering you’re with them an ample amount of hours a day. I’m extremely thankful that I’ve had an opportunity to volunteer and make an impact on the communities and organizations through SFEA

Auriel Solomon

Greetings and most humble salutations I am Auriel Solomon, a second year elementary education student from the city of Tampa Bay Florida. I chose to be an educator because I want to be a positive impact on children. Growing up I saw my grandmother touch the hearts and minds of so many different children. They would look up to her as if she was superwoman and admired everything she did for them. Teaching is not just a profession, but a mission. I have a passion for learning as well as sharing my knowledge with others and it having a lifetime benefit. I also enjoy working with youth and seeing the difference I can make in their lives. I have participated in a plethora of volunteer activities starting from volunteering in an assisted living facility, volunteering at different food banks, being a tutor, reading to children at a local elementary school in the Tampa Bay Area and many more!  I am the scholarship recipient of the Hillsborough County Mary Ella Ellen Future Educators scholarship presented to me by Hillsborough County Superintendent Jeff Eakins. I hold numerous leadership positions on campus such as being the Campus Activities Board Secretary and fundraising chair and Honors Scholar Student Association member. I’ve participated in many conferences  and educational courses throughout my lifetime as well.

Natalie Smith

I am Natalie Smith. I’m a third-year Elementary Education major from Belle Glade, Florida. I chose to major in education because I have a passion for teaching young children. I feel that many students are often overlooked or misunderstood. This causes many students to slip through the cracks and they will eventually go on feeling that no one believes in them. I feel that the way to prevent this starts as early as in elementary school. My goal as an educator is to instill self-motivation in those students. I want to build trust and relationships with them especially if they don’t have any in their homes. Also, there is also a lack of minority educators. I believe my role is important because there are millions of African-American girls that fail to see many teachers that look likes them. When I was school, I needed that inspiration. The community service work that I participated in were teaching bible study at my church in my hometown. I taught children ages 3-12 the books of the Bible. I attended my first SFEA Student Leadership Conference in February 2019.
